Mergers, acquisitions and startup deals, and what they mean.

Meta has acquired Conductor, a startup whose software lets programmers run several AI coding agents side by side on the same project. Neither company disclosed the price. Meta confirmed the purchase to TechCrunch but declined to give further details.

The most immediate effect falls on Conductor’s customers. The startup’s cloud service will shut down on Nov. 20, and after that the company will start deleting user data stored there, TechCrunch reported. According to vc.ru, the cloud product switches to read-only mode on Nov. 13, a week before it goes dark.

How the deal came to light

Axios first reported the acquisition, citing sources. Conductor then posted the news on its own blog. Founder and CEO Charlie Holtz wrote on Wednesday that Conductor “is joining Meta” and said the team has “big, crazy plans for the next interface,” according to TechCrunch.

The Conductor team will move into Meta’s Superintelligence Labs, vc.ru reported. On X, Holtz said he looks forward to working with Alexandr Wang, Meta’s chief AI officer, and Nat Friedman, who leads product at Superintelligence Labs.

What Conductor makes

Conductor was founded in 2024 and released its main product last summer. Its platform coordinates teams of autonomous coding agents, so a software engineer can assign separate parts of a project to different agents that work in parallel, each in its own workspace. Users can deploy those agents in the cloud, on their own machine or from a phone.

The company does not build its own AI models. The agents it runs come from large labs such as Anthropic and OpenAI, according to TechCrunch.

In the spring of 2026 the startup raised $22 million from the investment firms Spark and Matrix, vc.ru reported.

What it means for Conductor users

Customers who rely on the local and phone versions of the product can keep using them for now. Holtz said Conductor’s core features will keep working as before until early next year, when the company plans to offer customers “something new.” Vc.ru put that timing at the start of 2027.

The cloud product is the exception. Anyone who keeps projects or data in Conductor Cloud has until the Nov. 20 shutdown before deletion begins, and from Nov. 13 the service will no longer accept changes, according to vc.ru.

Meta’s push into AI coding tools

The purchase adds to a string of AI deals at Meta, which TechCrunch described as having trailed rivals in AI services before spending recent months trying to close the gap. In August, Meta released Muse Code, its own coding agent. The company recently said its Muse agents had passed 10 million users.

Over the past year Meta has also bought other AI businesses, including Moltbook, an agent platform that drew wide attention online, TechCrunch reported.

With Conductor, Meta gets a team that has already shipped software for running many coding agents at once, along with the founder who built it. Meta has not disclosed the financial terms.

What to watch next

The next dates for customers are the read-only switch on Nov. 13 and the full cloud shutdown on Nov. 20. After that, attention turns to the new product Holtz has promised for early 2027 and to how Superintelligence Labs folds Conductor’s agent tools into its own Muse lineup.
